What to Include on Every Invoice
A legally compliant invoice in the UK should include the following:
- Invoice number — a unique reference for each invoice (auto-generated for you)
- Your business name and address — who the invoice is from
- Client name and address — who is being billed
- Issue date and due date — when it was sent and when payment is expected
- Description of goods or services — what you are charging for
- Quantity, unit price, and tax rate — itemised breakdown
- Total amount due — including any VAT or sales tax
Print or Save as PDF
Click "Print / Save PDF" to preview your invoice in a new tab. From there, use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) and select "Save as PDF" as the destination. Your business details, colour, and logo are stored in your browser, so they will be waiting for you next time.
VAT and Tax on Your Invoices
Each line item has its own tax rate field so you can mix standard-rated, reduced-rated, and zero-rated items on the same invoice. Toggle tax off entirely if you do not charge VAT, or switch to tax-inclusive pricing if your rates already include VAT. The totals update automatically.
